How to preload GTA 6 on PS5 and Xbox

TL;DR: Preload opens Nov 12 (PS5 digital reportedly Nov 10). You need ~210 GB plus patch headroom. Preloading does not let you play early: the game unlocks at your region's unlock time.

PS5: step by step

  1. Pre-order the digital version in the PlayStation Store, or redeem your code-in-box.
  2. Go to Settings → Saved Data and Game/App Settings → Automatic Updates and turn on Auto-Download and Auto-Install in Rest Mode.
  3. Go to Settings → System → Power Saving → Features Available in Rest Mode and turn on Stay Connected to the Internet.
  4. From preload day, open the game tile and press Download if it hasn't started on its own.
  5. Check progress under Downloads/Uploads in the Control Center.

Xbox Series X|S: step by step

  1. Pre-order in the Microsoft Store (console, app or xbox.com) or redeem your code.
  2. Go to Settings → System → Updates and turn on Keep my games & apps up to date.
  3. Set Settings → General → Power options to Sleep so downloads continue overnight.
  4. From preload day, find GTA 6 under My games & apps → Full library → Owned and install it.
  5. Using the Xbox mobile app, you can start the download remotely.

Preload not showing up?

  • Confirm the payment for your pre-order went through.
  • Make sure you are signed in to the account that bought the game.
  • Code-in-box: the preload only starts once you redeem the code.
  • Not enough space? Run the storage calculator.
  • Still nothing on Nov 12? Restart the console and check PSN or Xbox Live status.

Can I play GTA 6 after preloading?
